What are appliances?
Whatever you know them as – home appliances, domestic appliances, white goods, brown goods, consumer electronics – they are all intended to make life that much easier. From small appliances to major appliances, they all do a specific job and it’s very likely you won’t be able to do without them for long periods of time.
From large household items commonly found in the kitchen, such as, cookers, fridge freezers, dishwashers, washing machines and tumble dryers, to more portable consumer electronics type items like TVs, vacuum cleaners, clothes irons, and DVD player, these are all items that you rely on an almost daily basis.
We can provide insurance for most of your domestic appliances including: American Fridge-Freezers, Blenders, Chest Freezers, Coffee Machines, Cooker Hoods, Cooker Oven, Cookers, Dish Washer, Dryer (Cloth), Double Ovens, Dual Fuel Range Cooker, Dual Fuel Cookers, DVD players, Electric Cooker, Electric Hobs, Extractor Fans, Freezers, Fridges, Fridge-Freezers, Gas Hobs, Halogen Ovens, Irons, Kitchen Top Ovens, Microwaves, Pressure Cookers, Steam Ovens, Toaster Oven, Tumble Dryers, TVs, Vacuum Cleaners, Washer Dryers, and Washing Machines.
What is home appliance insurance?
Home appliance insurance provides cover for your household appliances in the event of a breakdown or even accidental damage. While your manufacturer’s warranty that you automatically get when you buy an appliance may provide you with some cover for an initial period, these are time-limited, and how often does your appliance break down just after your warranty has expired?
Appliance insurance provides you with financial certainty as you know you are going to have cover in the event of a breakdown. Consider how inconvenient it would be if a vital domestic appliance such as your cooker, fridge, or washing machine were to break down and you were without it for days or even weeks? And if your TV were to be out of action, then that would seem like the worst thing that could happen to some in your household!
By being in possession of appliance insurance we will ensure that in the event of a breakdown of a vital appliance in the home, you won’t have to go without it for an extended period of time with our top quality appliance breakdown cover. We aim to respond quickly and get your appliance sorted in as quick a time as possible, and if that isn’t possible, we’ll arrange a rapid replacement or a contribution towards one.
What will home appliance insurance cost?
Typical costs of appliance insurance will vary, especially if you are insuring several appliances, as discounts will be offered the more items you cover. We offer some packages which allow you to select a set number of appliances to insure for a fixed price package.
The cost of appliance insurance will take into consideration the price of the appliance that you have purchased, so we will ask you to specify the price range that each item falls within in order to generate a competitive quote.
Here are some estimates for a range of different priced appliances. Each is the cost per month based on multi appliance insurance and does not take into account the discount you might get for insuring several appliances or for paying your insurance upfront on an annual rather than monthly basis.
|Appliance||Purchase price range (£)||Cost/from (month)|
Appliance insurance vs Extended warranties – what’s the difference?
Unsure of the difference between appliance insurance and extended warranties? At first appearance they may seem very much like the same thing, after all, both provide you with some cover should your appliance unexpectedly break down. However, appliance insurance has some advantages over typical extended warranties which are outlined below
|Extended Warranty||Appliance Insurance|
|Extended warranties sold to you on the high street usually lock you into a 2 or 3-year payment term, with no get out||Most appliance insurance policies allow you to stop your premium at any time, at which point cover instantly ceases|
|Don’t always cover you for accidental damage||Will cover you in the event of BOTH breakdown and accidental damage|
|Require you to purchase an extended warranty for each item you wish to cover||You can purchase multi-appliance cover, allowing you to protect several appliances with a single payment|
|Can be expensive as bought on a per-item basis at your point of original purchase||Are often cheaper to buy, especially when insuring several appliances on a single policy|
|Often cannot extend the warranty for an item beyond a set number of years||Will often cover older items, sometimes even appliances up to 8 years old|
|Requires you keep track of multiple warranties and payments for each appliance you have taken cover out for, including all that paperwork!||One appliance insurance policy can cover all your items, reducing the amount of paperwork and being just one set payment (either monthly, quarterly or annually), no matter how many appliances you insure|
What appliance insurance do Prominence Support provide?
At Prominence Support, we provide comprehensive appliance insurance, that enables us to give you cover across all the appliances in your home in one complete package. You can, of course, opt for insurance for a single appliance, but the best savings and greater peace of mind are to be had the more appliances you extend cover to.
Appliance insurance can at times seem expensive, but not if you use our saving option for multiple appliances. You could be in line to receive a discount of up to 50% on the total costs of insurance with each appliance that you add when you choose to insure several of your home appliances with us.
Prominence support will give you that certainty when it comes to your appliances in the home. Items like washing machines, fridge freezers, cookers can be covered, but you might not realise you can also extend insurance to other kitchen appliances like your hob, cooker hood, extractor fans as well as electronic appliances like TVs, DVD players, and vacuum cleaners.
Enjoy bigger savings by paying for your appliance insurance annually. Making an upfront payment on an annual basis can earn you a sizeable discount compared to paying on a month-by-month basis. If you prefer the flexibility of monthly payments, we can accommodate that too.

Why buy home appliance insurance cover?
Appliances are generally abundant in the home and we often take them for granted, until such time that they cease working. A breakdown of a commonly used appliance can cause such disruption to everyday home life that mightn’t have been anticipated.
Consider what would happen in your household if the washing machine suddenly stopped functioning? Or how would you cope if your fridge freezer packed in just a day after you’ve stocked it full of goods which are now likely to go to waste? Avoid these scenarios by making sure you have a back up in the form of appliance insurance which can help you in your moment of need.
Prominence Support can assist you and help you avoid a mini domestic crisis when an appliance ceases working outside of your manufacturer’s warranty. You can avoid the inconvenience of mounds of dirty washing, defrosting foods, or even bored children when the TV has broken down, with effective appliance insurance. Provide yourself with certainty and know that you are not going to be landed with a considerable repair bill or even have to buy a replacement when your appliance breaks down.
Is home appliance insurance worth it?
You may be considering whether appliance insurance provides good value and is worth purchasing. Multiple domestic appliances in the home add up to a considerable amount, and if you are faced with having to unexpectedly replace one of your major appliances such as a cooker or washing machine, that would be a significant amount to immediately have to find.
Appliance insurance with Prominence Support provides you with certainty and ensures that you don’t have to find money, perhaps at a time when you can least afford to do so. If you add up the cost to you in terms of having to eat out frequently (because your cooker is broken) or having to visit a launderette regularly (because your washing machine is broken), it quickly becomes clear that the cost of appliance insurance becomes very obviously worthwhile.
Can I insure more than one appliance?
Appliance insurance can be taken out to cover one appliance or multiple appliances, depending on your requirements. Some people opt for insurance on their most important and often most expensive household appliances that they can least afford to be without for any length of time.
If you wish to have proper peace of mind, you should insure as many appliances as you can reasonably afford with Prominence Support. The more appliances you insure the better the discount you are likely to get, with up to 50% off for every additional appliance you insure with us. Just click ‘Add Another Appliance’ during the quote process to make the most of the multiple appliance savings.
You can start insuring a single or a few appliances and later add additional items to your policy over time as your circumstances change. This allows your cover to evolve to your changing needs as your family or household grows or contracts.
What appliances should I get insurance cover for?
It’s really up to you how many appliances you take out insurance for, but if you are limited in how many you realistically can afford to insure against breakdown or accidental damage, then concentrate on those household appliances that you would consider you really couldn’t do without for any length of time.
Items that are usually essential to the smooth running of most homes would include your cooker, fridge freezer, and quite possibly your washing machine. And it is quite possible that some in your household may consider your TV the most vital appliance of them all!
Consider the amount of inconvenience and additional expense that might result if you were suddenly faced with throwing away all your frozen foods, having to make regular trips to the launderette, or having to eat takeaway every night because your cooker is out of action – it all adds up. It is these appliances that you should focus on first and then consider whether it is more economical to add more appliances as the discount savings make the additional cost almost negligible.
Our appliance insurance can cover as few or as many items as you like, and with discounts available the more items you insure with us, your appliance insurance won’t cost as much as you might initially have thought it might.

Not only do we aim to provide you with complete peace of mind when it comes to the level of insurance cover, but we also want to give you the reassurance of being able to cancel at any time, without having to incur any unseen fees.
We are able to offer flexibility so that your policy can be cancelled or amended at any time. If you cancel your policy within 21 calendar days of receiving it you will receive a full refund of any premium you have paid to us. If however, you have made a claim during this period we reserve the right to deduct the cost of that claim from the refund of premium which is due to you and we will tell you if we are making this deduction. If you cancel this policy after 21 calendar days of receiving it cancellation will be effective immediately and the amount of premium refund you are entitled to is set out below.
|Monthly and Quarterly Policies||Annual Policies|
|You will not be charged any more monthly or quarterly premium amounts and you will not receive a refund of any premium you have paid to us.||You will be entitled to a pro-rata return of premium paid for the number of complete unexpired days remaining of your policy. The administrator will charge an administration fee of £20. You will not be entitled to a pro-rata refund if a claim or an incident that may give rise to a claim has occurred.|
As our customers would prefer it, unlike other insurers, we place no restrictions on the number of times you can claim. It’s a fact that appliances can, and sometimes often do, break in close proximity to one another.
We don’t want to make you feel awkward should you find that you have to make claims in quick succession – these things happen. The only general restriction we specify is that deliberate damage and pre-existing faults are not covered under our insurance policies.
If your appliance cannot be repaired, we will replace it with an appliance of similar specification to the one you currently own. If we are unable to source a replacement appliance on your behalf, we will pay a contribution towards the cost of replacing the appliance, enabling you to choose a replacement yourself.
Getting a quote for you appliances couldn’t be easier. Go to our Appliance Quote page and select the appliances you are considering insuring. Provide us with a few basic details of each appliance including brand, colour and price range, and from this, we will be able to generate your quote.
If you are happy with your instant quote, just complete our online form and proceed to checkout. You will receive confirmation straight away and all documents will be sent to your home address within 2 working days.
Alternatively, if you prefer to talk to someone to sort your appliance insurance, you can call our Customer Service helpline to speak to one of our customer services team.
