Home Emergency Insurance

Home emergency cover goes beyond most house insurance policies to provide cover in emergency events like boiler break downs, failures in electrical systems, pest infestations, and drains that have become blocked.

House insurance rarely covers emergency issues and is generally taken out (or required to be taken out if you have a mortgage) to protect the fabric and structure of the house as well as the home owner’s contents from theft, fire, or water damage. Emergency cover, on the other hand, can help fill the gaps house insurance leaves behind.

If you take out a Prominence Support Home Emergency Insurance policy, you can rest assured that not only are you getting quality and comprehensive cover but you have peace of mind that you are covered in the event of any emergency.

If a home emergency strikes and you have to make a claim, one of our qualified and experienced engineers or electricians will be sent to assess the situation. All the work they undertake is covered by your policy, so you can sleep easy knowing you won’t have any nasty hidden fees for things like parts or labour to keep you awake at night.

What actually counts as a household emergency?

Most insurers define household emergencies differently, but we try to stay clear in our message and define the following situations as emergencies:

  • Something that makes your home become uninhabitable for a period of time.
  • Something that causes or could cause permanent damage to your property.
  • Something that could put your health or wellbeing at risk.
  • Something that makes your home become unsafe.

In general terms, this means a total loss of service, not a fault to a service. For example, your boiler completely breaking down would prevent your central heating service from working and would be covered, whereas low water pressure would not stop your water supply from working so wouldn’t.

What does a Prominence Home Emergency Insurance policy cover?

We offer a wide range of policies at different price points depending on your needs and the level of cover required. Depending on the policy you choose, you home could be protected in the following circumstances:

  • Boiler breakdown cover
  • Central heating failures
  • Radiator problems and leaks
  • Problems with your hot water supply
  • Issues with plumbing
  • Burst and leaking water pipes
  • Blocked drains and pipes
  • Failure to fuse boxes and other electrics within the home.
  • Roof damage caused by extreme weather
  • Missing tiles from the roof
  • Issues that prevent access to your home like a broken door lock or lost key
  • Security problems like broken windows or doors
  • Infestations from rodents and other pests.

What isn’t covered by home emergency insurance?

As with all insurance policies, our Home Emergency Insurance has a few exclusions to be aware of, including:

  • Emergencies at properties that have been left unoccupied for a lengthy period of time.
  • Break downs to boilers that have not been properly serviced and maintained according to the manufacturer’s guidance.
  • Household appliances like washing machines, fridge freezers and dishwashers (we have great appliance insurance to cover these devices).

Are there any other benefits to a Prominence Support Home Emergency Insurance Policy?

Prominence Support Home Care Cover also comes with a few additional benefits aimed at making your life easier, including:

  • The option to take a yearly boiler service from one of our engineers.
  • Up to £250 for hotel expenses if your home is uninhabitable for a period of time due to an emergency.

What about if I have to stay away from home during an emergency?

As mentioned above, we will cover you for any hotel accommodation required up to £250 due to your home becoming uninhabitable during your household crisis.

Does a Prominence Home Emergency Insurance policy cover my boiler?

The short answer is yes, your boiler is covered in one of our Emergency Insurance policies. We do require that you have it serviced at least once a year and that it is used within the parameters of the manufacturer’s guidance, but other than that, we will repair or provide credit towards a new one if it develops an issue

Do I already have a home emergency cover if I have household insurance?

A lot of people assume that home emergency cover is included with their home insurance but, as we mentioned at the top of this article, it very rarely is. If you asked for it when purchasing the policy, it will be. But if not check your terms and conditions or ring your provider to find out.

Even if you do have emergency cover included in your policy, the protection may not be the best and you might get better protection with one of our Home Emergency Insurance policies. Again, check your terms and conditions. Look for gaps and compare it to what we offer. You might be surprised at how much more cover you can get from us.

Will the cost of my policy go up after the first year?

While the financial climate can change quickly and prices for everything change over time, we don’t deliberately offer a low initial monthly fee to then hike prices after a year once you’ve been suckered in. As an insurance company, we are regulated by the FCA and always endeavour to treat our customers fairly. Our pricing plans are simple, fair, and consistent.

Are there any hidden fees for emergency call outs etc?

Again, as part of our commitment to treating customers fairly, there are no hidden fees in our policies.

How much is a Prominence Support Home Emergency Insurance policy?

The short answer is less than you think. We pride ourselves on the quality and value we offer, and our policies are a great way to cost-effectively protect your home.

Give us a call today and see how you can protect your home without spending an arm and a leg.

What type of things impact on the price?

We keep all plan simple; so you need not worry about –

  • The type of roof on your property.
  • The age of electric wiring in your home.

Do I actually need Home Emergency Insurance?

Let us answer that question with a couple of questions of our own: Do you value peace of mind that your home is protected in the case of an emergency? And, how would you cope if a key part of your home broke down?
