You’ll be surprised how many energy providers find a cheaper alternative when confronted in this way.
You can even skip comparison sites altogether if you want and call new suppliers directly. This is obviously a more labour-intensive option but by speaking to a real person, you are guaranteeing the quotes they give are the cheapest they can offer.
What about auto-switching?
Auto-switching is a relatively new way to switch your energy supplier but is fast becoming the quickest and easiest way to save money. Auto-switching services will monitor your tariff and automatically move you to a cheaper option when your contract is up. This makes them a great way to save money with little effort.
What if my energy supplier owes my money?
If you are in credit with your previous provider once your final meter readings have been totalled, they will be obliged to send you a credit for that amount. This can be in the form of a bank transfer or a cheque that will come through the post. If you haven’t received anything within a month of switching over, give your previous provider a call and chase up the payment. If you are not happy with what your previous provider says you always reserve the right to go to the Energy Ombudsmen service.
